Benefits of Xylitol

What is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a tooth friendly natural sugar substitute; it is not an artificial sweetener. It can be found in plants, fruits, and vegetables and is even produced in the human body by normal metabolism.

Benefits of Xylitol

Xylitol reduces plaque formation. As it is a non-fermentable sugar alcohol, the (cariogenic) bacteria, that causes cavities, cannot process it and produce lactic acid. Over time, Xylitol creates a protective layer on the teeth that makes the bacteria in plaque unable to attach.

Xylitol also strengthens your teeth. It increases salivary flow to aid in the repair of damaged tooth enamel and the teeth can be re-mineralized to help prevent cavities from forming in the first place.

In plain words, Xylitol protects your teeth and makes them stronger.

Is Xylitol better than Fluoride?

There are 2 sides to any story and this is definitely the case in Fluoride, which has been widely debated over the past few decades. Fluoride has been reported to cause many problems. You can read more about it here.

Here at Dentiste’, we believe in using Xylitol in our toothpaste because prevention is better than cure. While Fluoride promotes tooth repair after the damage is done, Xylitol helps prevent damage before it begins as it subdues the bacterium that causes acid buildup, leading to plaque.

Don’t just repair your oral health; protect it from damage in the first place.
